Suicide is a tragedy BUT it is preventable!

Today in Australia, is being held Lifeline’s Out of the Shadow Walk, with 12,315 participants raising $2,022,618 to support suicide prevention services and save lives.

Around 3200 deaths by suicide occur every year in Australia, more than double the road toll. Higher suicide rate in males; about 75% of people who die by suicide are males and 25% are females (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2024).

Among men, 12% of suicides are linked to employment/unemployment, while 15.4% are attributed to stress/anxiety, which may be work-related. For women, 6.9% of suicides are associated with employment/unemployment, and 23.9% due to stress/anxiety. (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2022)
