On March 25th, the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre hosted the powerful UN Women Australia International Womenโs Day event ๐ต๐ฟ๐ฉโ๐ฆณ๐ง๐พ๐ฉ๐ฝโ๐ฆฐ๐ฉ. It marked 30 years of celebrating womenโs achievements and resilience worldwide.
The event brought together a diverse crowd of women and gender equality advocates. It featured inspiring speeches and thought-provoking panel discussions.
A major highlight was the keynote by Madison de Rozario, a record-breaking Australian Paralympian and disability inclusion advocate ๐ฉ๐ฝโ๐ฆฝ. She shared her personal story and stressed the importance of representationโespecially for women with disabilities. Her message was clear: break barriers, pursue dreams, and never underestimate your power ๐ช.
Throughout the day, the atmosphere was one of solidarity and collective action. Women from across the globe exchanged stories and built lasting connections.
At the same time, the event served as a stark reminder that gender inequality persists. The data speaks for itself:
โก๏ธ An 11.9% pay gap remains
โก๏ธ Female employment sits at 60%, compared to 68% for men
โก๏ธ Women still do 70% of housework, while men do 42%
โก๏ธ And 22% of women (compared to 6% of men) experience sexual violence from the age of 15*
Fortunately, the global movement for gender equality is gaining strength, and the future for women everywhere is
